This scarf is made from Mandala yarn in Parrot. The color changes are too long,am not real happy with the large patches of colors. The yarn itself is very soft, might work out better as a shawl.
These are some shuttles that I made in an adult wood shop class recently. They are maple, for the 10" loom. Also made some 36" shuttles for the larger loom. Finished with Howard's feed and wax.
These are the "new" tools that the title refers to. Size 5 heddles for both looms, a size 10 for the SampleIt plus a stand. They come unfinished so all the pieces were covered with Howard's feed and wax. Used painters tape to cover the plastic on the heddles, that is the green you see.
These are the first 2 squares made on the pin loom. The top square was made with 1 strand of yarn and the bottom square is made of 2 strands. The yarn is a heavier weight than worsted, and it was a little difficult at the end weaving. Next time will try doubled worsted and sport weight to see which works better. Hoping to make some coasters out of handspun yarn with this little loom. It seems to be quick &easy, and portable.
Have also ordered a stand for the 32" loom,it should be here in a few days. Will post photos of that, plus the stand for the 10" loom when its put together. Bought a 10" Ashford SampleIt. It came unfinished and unassembled. Used Howard's Feed and Wax which gave a very nice finish to the wood. It was easy to put together and is becoming my favorite loom. Very portable, for taking to weaving guild meetings, camping and demonstrating. Hoping to spend some time at our local farm market next summer to sell some hand wovens, and this would be a nice loom to demonstrate weaving on. Also will be taking it to a family reunion next summer,s o they can try it out.
First weaving project on the new loom. Pink warp,it is Vannas choice yarn and am not sure of the color, the label is gone. The weft is an acrylic boucle, also without a label. Turned out very nice, soft and cuddly.
This is a kitchen towel project on the 15" Schacht Flip loom. It is Peaches and Cream cotton for the warp, and the weft is crochet thread. The texture will shrink up after a trip through the washer and dryer. The ends will be hemmed, not fringed.
This was started last night,a stashbuster project. Warp is black Red Heart and the weft is some kind of chunky multicolored yarn. Made a rug out of the yarn,it was a fair entry, but again no label. The threading hook is there to see how thick the yarn is.
My daughter took this photo,I was very happy to finally get to see the inside of this shop. Every time we go by here they were closed for a vacation,or its after hours. I bought the yarn showed above,2 skeins and a handcarved shawl pick to wear with a shawl I wove. There are so many things I make that dont get used,so decided to wear it soon. Want to try weaving a ruana soon. Tried some on in T.J. Maxx's when we were on our trip to Duluth and really was motivated to try making one. Would be nice to wear something unique once in awhile.
We bought a 1990 pop up camper and have been working on getting it ready and using it. We took it out one weekend in early June, but the bugs were so bad we left early. I can set it up by myself, just need to learn how to back it up.

Have plans on taking it to the Porcupine Mts in Aug. They have a school there called the Porkies Folk School where they offer classes through the summer. Two members of my weaving guild are teaching basketry classes! Hope to stay there all weekend,as it's a two hour drive one way. The classes are all day classes so I could do some hiking in the evenings.
Here is the baby blanket in progress, it was almost finished in this photo. At the beginning I was tempted to cut it off the loom and start something else, there were tension problems and the down shed didn't work very well. Ended up with lots of floats, where I missed threads and the weft went across a couple threads instead of over, under. Would notice it a few rows later, then would have to unweave and fix the row. It turned out well, was glad in the end that I didn't quit! The variagated yarn made this plaid. Was planning on using pale yellow for the weft, wasn't sure there was enough yarn to do the whole thing but after seeing what it was doing, decided to take a chance and go for it. There is actually enough left over for a hat, or two.
Here it is finished with the fringes twisted. Love how it turned out, and it is so soft! Am planning on entering it in our weaving guilds best of show contest later this month. We are supposed to enter something inspired by nature. This is definitely inspired by summer. It was between this or my dark purple shawl, which makes me think of starry night skies and our northern lights.

Now what to make next on the big rigid heddle loom? Have an handspun throw in mind, have a lot of partial balls that could be used. Am not sure how to proceed yet, it would have to be made in two sections and sewn together, and have to figure out a pattern and colors to make that work.

Will have to look through my yarn and come up with something,it should be a fun one after the last project was so problematic! Part of the trouble was the heddle was tight for the yarn, wanted a closer sett weave, now am thinking of another baby blanket with the larger heddle for lightness. Maybe a pretty plaid or lots of stripes? Can't have a loom sitting empty, right?
Made a newborn sized earflap hat on the standard gauge knitting machine. Want to make more, soon and try some fair isle designs. The next one will increase the tension when rehanging the hem, that row is so small it doesn't want to lay flat. Learn as we go...
Also finished weaving the scarf on the 15" Flip loom. The yarn is Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball in Mystical Mirage. Love how it turned out, but will make the next one at least 5 inches longer.
Already warped for another scarf, this is Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball in Namaste Neutrals. Wasn't crazy about the colors until it was on the loom, now am looking forward to weaving it up. While warping this morning, a woodpecker was so loud outside I could hear it in the house with the furnace running! Probably will think of that bird everytime I sit down at the loom, now.

The snow is almost gone, and we are seeing many species of birds in the yard and at the feeder. Was happy to see a bright yellow goldfinch out there this morning, hope to see more soon.

The pink machine knit baby afghan with the heart edging is on hold for awhile, or time out! One side of the heart edgings is much closer spaced than the other side. I spaced them much too close together. Can't decide whether to unravel the whole thing and make something else or pull it out and redo it yet again. In the meantime I will weave and make some teeny earflap hats. Until next time....Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04414035462074645900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1343520745841351340.post-38257270681966630002019-04-21T06:54:00.000-04:002019-05-12T08:45:47.896-04:00Tuck stitch success

Here is the finished sample from the first design I tried in the last post on the electronic knitting machine. The problem was drawing the design on the mylar sheet. I put the knit stitches on the mylar and should have put the tuck sts on there! Once redone it worked fine! This stitch is in a baby blanket I want to make soon. The colors alternate every row and there is a machine knit edging sewn on after the blanket is done. Also looks cute on hats, just picturing some pretty baby hat colors with a ribbing.

Too many ideas and not enough hours in the day.

This is another tuck st pattern. This one is only 2 sts across and 2 sts high. This is a dishcloth pattern from Ravelry, and the yarn is 8/2 cotton rug warp.

Here is the front of the finished dishcloth. Looks like ribbing, because the tuck stitch pattern is every other stitch, and alternates every row. The yarn I used was thinner than what the pattern called for,so had to change the tension from 8 to 5 and that worked out well.

Will be making more of these in different colors and patterns.
Decided today to try tuck stitch on the electronic knitting machine. Found the stitch pattern book, and the mylar sheets to make the design I wanted. Planned on doing a practice swatch to make the multicolored tuck st baby blanket out of Diana Sullivan's pattern book for baby afghans.

This is what the pattern looks like. The X are stitches and the blank areas are needles that dont knit and hold yarn,to make a pretty pattern.

Here is the graph paper that comes with the mylar sheets to draw out the pattern. I used pencil, then put the mylar sheet over to draw the design on it with a special marker that came with it all. Comvenient, right?
Made a mistake and joined the bottom short end of the panel to the long side edge. Am going to make dinner then spend some time organizing and cleaning my craft room. Need to take a break from the 2 machines for a little while and maybe do some reading or YouTube watching to see what went wrong with the tuck stitch. Am not one to give up easily,so will keep at it,eventually.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04414035462074645900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1343520745841351340.post-21926898285276357652019-03-13T09:53:00.000-04:002019-05-12T10:09:42.227-04:00Machine knitting mishap, and more weaving projects

Here are two panels joined together, and you can see the problem, one is longer than the other. My dog is holding down the edges, stockinette knitting curls without an edging. Put the longer panel back on the machine, undid the cast off edge and ripped back until they matched. Now it needs to be bound off again and join the third panel. Another heart edging will be done all around the outer edges then it will be done.
Here is the weaving in progress. It is Lion Brand Ice Cream yarn in lemon swirl. This warp didn't go as well as the shawls did on the bigger loom. The threads are skewed slightly for some reason. Have been trying to correct it by pulling up on the lower side and down on the higher side while weaving and it seems to be improving.

Also am not happy with the sett, should have used the larger heddle, the warp threads are too close together and it's more difficult to beat,or get a good shed. The shuttle keeps missing threads and I have to unweave and fix them.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04414035462074645900noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1343520745841351340.post-51562016492150422182019-02-13T01:02:00.001-05:002019-02-13T19:34:39.771-05:00shawl update and knitting machine projects

Here is the yarn for my granddaughters shawl, will post a photo when its finished. Got the loom warped and around 25% woven. Going to be pretty. A scarf would be nice in those colors, also. Warped my larger loom for the shawl that was ordered from my Facebook post, have both of them set up in the sunporch. That was my superbowl party, warping the two looms.
Weaving in progress. Our granddaughter is 42 inches tall, and the measurements for a shawl are typically height, or wingspan (from fingertip to finger tip) which is sometimes the same measurements. Had to figure out how much the piece would shrink when taken off the loom, called takeup. Multiplied the length by 10 percent so the total length should be 46 inches, plus fringe.
This is a side view of the 29 inch loom. After asking on the rigid heddle Facebook group, found out it's a Sears Hearthside loom, made in the 40's. All the parts are original except the heddle, which was missing. The original heddle was metal, and had the slots and holes much closer together to use finer yarn with it. One article I read talked about the loom was marketed as a rug loom for smaller spaces. The stand came with it,and makes it so much easier to weave on it.
Here is the finished shawl, in Restful Rainbow. Shared some photos of it on Facebook and someone wants to buy it! Also another person wants one just like it,so I will be busy weaving shawls for awhile. There is a pretty pastel version of this yarn that is calling to me,for my granddaughter. She loves anything to do with princesses, and dressing up is her favorite thing. The yarn has all pastel colors and a metallic thread,so with her birthday coming up,that will be the next project on my loom.
Here is the view from the back. So happy with the finished piece. This is the largest woven article I have made so far, except for rugs. Have another one started,in the colorway Lotus Flower, a purple, lavender, jade green yarn with a metallic thread running through it. The metallic thread is lavender and has held up well to the abrasion of the heddle. Will share some photos of that one when its finished as well as the princess shawl. Also want to go into some details about the loom I have been using, finally got the brand name and some history on it in the next few posts.

Warping the 29 inch rigid heddle loom for my first shawl project, the photo shows threading the warp through the heddle. The yarn is Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball in Restful Rainbow. Very happy with it so far. It is so nice to have some color to look at. Out the windows we see white snow everywhere, and overcast gray weather. Had an issue with the yarn about halfway through the weaving. There was a knot in the yarn, the color abruptly changed, and it was very noticeable in the weaving. Had to buy another skein to replace the color that was left out, because the yarn is gradient and it went from yellow to red, instead of a gradual change. This shawl is probably going to be a fair entry this summer, so I wanted it to look consistent.

Making progress,it has been a fairly quick weave. Read up on weaving with this yarn, and have been having good luck so far with my new larger heddle that was a Christmas gift. Not much shredding of the yarn, or sticking together. Have some ideas for future projects on this loom, a wool blanket with panels that are checkerboard so they can be seamed together for a wider blanket. 29 inches isn't wide enough for an adult piece. Thinking this would be a good way to use up a lot of my handspun. Some of it is my beginners yarn, and thick/thin would give an interesting texture.

Also kitchen towels are on my list to try, plaid in colorful cottons, my Flip loom is only 15" wide, so this loom is perfect for many projects.

Have another colorway of Shawl in a Ball, also. It's called Lotus Blossom, a purple, lavender and jade green with a metallic thread. So many projects to think about and look forward to making!

I have currently lost 8 pounds of the 20 so far. It's been a few weeks following the keto diet strictly and it's going well. Getting around 1,250 to 1,300 calories a day is bringing a consistent loss. My carb count per day is around 10-15. Usually closer to 10, unless I have extra vegetables which isn't very often.
These machine knitted mittens are for me! Knitted from sock yarn, and acrylic coned yarn for the lining, they should be warm enough for work. The finishing seems to take longer than the machine knitting between kitchener stitching the ends, finishing the thumbs and all the seaming and ends woven in. The result is worth it,though.

Here is my 29 inch rigid heddle loom. The blocks that hold the heddle never worked very well, they look homemade by someone a long time ago. There isn't a neutral position, and the down position didn't hold, either. I ordered the heddle from the woolery several years ago,it is a Glimakra Suzanna heddle. They helped me find the one that would work best with my loom, and it has.

Decided to order the 8 dent reed and the heddle block kit with some Christmas money this year. It came and was able to get it set up. It is normally stored hung on the wall,it is a bulky thing, and there is a towel project on it that was taken off. Was going to finish it,but was having tension problems. Two towels were done, and had just started the last one,so wasn't much loss.

Here are the new heddle blocks put on. They should be a little higher,so we may need to add some blocks of wood to help with that. My husband has a few ideas to modify it,so the next thing to be done is to warp it and try it out.

With the tension problems I was having with the other warp, want to give a different yarn a try before making any major changes to the loom. It is an older loom, there was a sticker on it originally with the brand name, but it wore off when it was stored in the attic. Hopefully will be posting progress photos soon with the warping and weaving. Have some Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball that I want to try. May make a scarf,as I've heard it is very sticky used as warp.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04414035462074645900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1343520745841351340.post-48827740865917591662019-01-12T02:27:00.000-05:002019-01-12T09:53:32.239-05:00Another pair of mittens finished, weaving presents and keto progress

These are for my youngest daughter. She loves purple and hopefully will like these mittens. The color is magenta, not snowberry like I had originally planned to use. This is more purple and the snowberry was more pink. When I bought the machine, several totes of coned yarn came with it. It is so much fun to just go pick out a color and start knitting, not shopping each time I want to make something. That will come when it's time to make a sweater, because we don't have any local sources for coned yarn. Our local yarn shop has lots of beautiful yarns available but not machine knitting yarns, specifically.

Bought a few weaving items recently from the woolery. A wavy shuttle, 8 dent rigid heddle for my 29 inch loom, and some brackets to hold the heddle. Will do a post about that loom, soon, the heddle is on back order for three weeks! The yarn is from Walmart, going to use that with the new shuttle. Just have to get it on the loom.

Last Sunday started seriously following the keto diet again. Reached a weight that is not acceptable,so something had to be done. Am getting between 1,250 and 1,300 calories a day and have lost 5 pounds so far. It will slow down, will be happy with a 1 pound loss a week. All my clothes were tight, winter jackets and ski pants included. I refused to buy more ski pants, they are expensive,so was zipping them up and leaving them unsnapped. They are getting looser, was able to snap the snap last night. They are still pretty snug, but progress is underway.
Here is the mitten just off the machine. Feels like dozens of ends to be woven in. Both tops have to be kitchener stitched, and the seaming done, also. The stitches are very small, something to get used to.
Put the top live stitches on knitting needles to kitchener stitch and had to leave for work yesterday morning. Left on the table and came home to the knitting needles laying on the floor by the table. Sure enough, the mitten was laying in the dog bed! Amazingly enough the stitches hadn't ran down at all. Was able to pick them back up on the needles and finish the top.
Here are the finished mittens. Am thinking of gifting them to the person who I bought the knitting machine from. Next will be a purple and black pair for my youngest daughter. Have a nice color of coned yarn called Snowberry,a nice purple / pink shade. The black will be inside, with the Snowberry on the outside. Considering making up a couple pairs to have on hand for gifts or if somebody comes along that needs them.Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04414035462074645900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1343520745841351340.post-23621825646442048152018-12-30T08:28:00.001-05:002018-12-30T08:44:04.737-05:00Finished Leno lace scarf

This is on the trail. They had just groomed it,conditions were perfect powder for skiing. This is a multipurpose trail, for skiing, skijoring, snowshoeing and snowbiking. Dogs are allowed on this one,and Pepper loves coming here. He has learned to come when I call if he gets too far away. He runs ahead, goes off the trail a little to sniff things and just loves running around freely.
This is 2x2 Leno which is offset. The strands of warp are twisted and put on a pick up stick, then the stick is turned on its side to make a shed. The shuttle is then ran through to lock the twists in place. Next row you start the twists with a 1x1 to offset them. I did 3 rows of leno. There is a one inch border, and the lace is around three inches so I know to start the lace about four inches from the end of the scarf.

While I was weaving, started up a Christmas gift from my husband,a robotic vacuum. It needed to be charged overnight so this was the first chance to see how it works. Did a good job, picked up lots more than expected. The only problem was the dog barked at it a lot. Finally took him into another room where I was weaving and he calmed down. Hope he gets used to it soon,am looking forward to using it often.
Started this scarf on Christmas Day while waiting for our company to arrive. Made from Red Heart super saver so it will be machine washable. It was the best warp so far, even tension and wound on easily with no problems. Had planned on doing a textured pattern with 2 pick up sticks, but couldn't figure it out. After struggling with it,decided that I just wanted to weave for the enjoyment of it,and am very happy with the way it turned out.

Finished it this morning, have warped up the loom with Red Heart Amethyst to make another one, they go so quickly. Am planning on making a border with Leno lace on each end,and twisted fringe.
Believe it was due to the weaving not being centered on the loom and the heddle was always being pulled downwards. You can see how abraded that strand was getting.

Ended up cutting that strand off, tying a new piece of black yarn in its place. Didn't want to use the same type of yarn,so used a strand of Universal Uptown Worsted. It is supposed to be anti-pilling, so it seemed to hold up better for a selvedge. Just hung the yarn over the back beam and left it dangle with a weight tied on. Used a washer with a paper clip and just tied a loop on the yarn to hang it from so it would have enough tension on it.

This warping process is called direct warping. First step is to decide how long your warp has to be, calculate loom waste, how much the length will shorten up with the weaving, and don't forget your fringe! Then position the loom that distance away from the warping peg, a wooden peg that holds the warp. For this warp, the distance was 10 feet. My front porch is the best place to do this, it is long and runs across most of the front of the house. The loom (a 15" Schacht Flip loom) will hold up to 15 feet, or 3 yards of warp at a time. I will share some more pics of our front porch later, it was quite a process to get that beautiful sitting room out there.

Then tie the yarn to the back beam and thread a loop of yarn through the slot of the heddle, then over to the warping peg, put the loop over the peg and walk back to the loom. Repeat until all the slots are filled for the width you want. You might have noticed the warp isn't centered on the loom. That is because I also weave dishcloths on this loom and have marked the placement of that warp with yellow yarn. The finished width is 9 inches, and the scarves width is marked with green yarn. Realized my mistake halfway through warping, and didn't want to start over so just left it like it is.

Now to wind on: I leave the warp on the peg,and wind on while moving the loom itself towards the peg. Putting a rug under the loom stand helps it slide on the hard wood flooring. That keeps tension on the warp, and you have better control of the winding on. Placing paper between the layers helps with tension, also. The next step is to take one of the warp strands out of the slot and bring through the hole in the heddle. This happens all the way across the loom. Then tie onto the front bar.

All tied on and ready to start weaving. I will start with some scrap yarn in a contrast color to even out the warp and get the tension just right before weaving the actual scarf.

Here is the weaving in progress. Since it's such a soft yarn, the threads have been abraded a little bit from going through the heddle so much. It's a fuzzy yarn, anyway, so it probably won't matter too much, like most weaving we won't know until it's off the loom what we end up with. This is a sweater for my granddaughter. She picked the yarn it is Red Heart Super saver stripes in Neon Stripes. Used an old Bond family sweaters pattern, and made some modifications along the way. She wanted a zipper, pockets and a hood so had to figure those out. Sewing the zipper wasn't so bad, after all! The sleeves turned out too short,so had to unsew the seams, rip back the knitting and add on some length. She wanted a round hood, not pointy on top,so did some cut and sew, also. It is a Christmas gift, hope she can wear it for a long time and that she is happy with it!Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04414035462074645900noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1343520745841351340.post-46569245819458254962018-12-06T20:48:00.001-05:002018-12-30T09:15:28.836-05:00Starting over againWhere has the time gone? It's been 4 years plus since I have posted on this blog! Lots of changes over the years. Where to start? I have arthritis in my thumb, now. Haven't been doing much hand knitting or spinning, because of that, but have exchanged hand knitting for machine knitting. Did my research and bought an Artisan 70 D mid gauge machine, with a ribber. Am learning how to use it, and made a few of Diane Sullivan's 3 panel baby afghans, and some baby hats for a local charity called the Calumet Hats for Hope Initiative. We meet for knitting/crocheting and dinner at a local restaurant every Thurs evening.

This past summer there was an ad in the paper for a knitting machine for sale, made a phone call, only to discover it was a Brother kh910! An electronic standard gauge machine, with a ribber, lace carriage, garter carriage, linker, many many patterns, 3 totes full of cone yarn, table, and tons of accessories! So far have made some swatches, used the ribber, and the electronic patterning to do a couple newborn sized hats, and a practice mitten. Am so grateful to the person who offered the machine to me!

Also have been using a plastic bed machine, a Bond Incredible Sweater Machine, so between the 3 machines have every size yarn covered, now and it's a lot easier on my thumb/wrist. The Bond is very different from the metal bed machines, in that it only does flat knitting, but still a very nice machine to learn on, and takes worsted weight yarn.

In between the machine knitting, have been making some things on my rigid heddle loom. Scarves and dishcloths are what's usually on there. It needs another warping, have been thinking about making some scarves for the knitting group mentioned above.

It is winter, here and am waiting to get enough snow for cross country skiing. I recently adopted a dog from the Humane Society who loves being out in the woods, so will have a cute willing hiking/skiing/snowshoeing buddy. He came from Missouri, and wasn't used to the cold. Now he is getting acclimated to it, and loves running in the snow! He doesn't seem to need his coat as much, now. We named him Pepper, btw. Am looking forward to sharing photos of him, and my projects, soon.

One more thing I hope to talk about on this blog is my weight loss journey. Three years ago I lost 100 # by following a keto diet. Am currently struggling, and have gained back around 30 pounds, but am not giving up. Would like to explore weight issues a little, as well.

Will go though my links, some are not updated, and others probably are gone, now. Am looking forward to updating everything and posting often again.
This is another of the top down infant sweaters I enjoy making. It's a Knitting Pure and Simple pattern, love the color and spots in it. Nice project for traveling or visiting, except for the increases it is fairly mindless.
Here is the Braided Baby Cable sweater, just need to do the sleeves. It took a lot more yarn than I thought, this is two skeins down.
Haven't done a blog post for several weeks, we had a family reunion to go to on Drummond Island the beginning of May, and a working weekend, then Mother's Day. This picture isn't a very flattering one of me, but it's a nice one of my grandkids, besides being the only one I have of all three of us, so it's going on here.

The weather is finally getting nice here, although Friday morning we woke up to a winter wonderland. I bought some iris bulbs and tomato plants at a church garden party yesterday. Can't wait to get them all planted, want to try some kind of little greenhouse for the tomatoes this year. We have a bunch of old storm windows that would work for covering them at night to keep the heat in. Think spring!Karenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04414035462074645900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1343520745841351340.post-74904767952940334462014-04-19T08:03:00.000-04:002014-04-19T08:16:27.440-04:00Crocheted baby shoes

These are the Mary Jane skimmers ( a Ravelry pattern) I made them Wednesday. Serenity needed some "shoes" for Easter. They worked up very fast, an F hook and the yarn is Caron Simply Soft in watermelon. Started another pair in black in the same brand yarn but am having issues with it. The color is hard on the eyes and my row count is off.

Went through my links, deleted some of the ones that are gone, now. Will keep checking on them, after being away from blogging for so long am finding that blogspot has changed and I will have to spend some time learning how to do things again. Tried to change the background and ended up changing the template (?) and couldn't remember which one it was originally so this blog will be a work in progress for awhile til I figure it all out again.

Here is the braided cable baby sweater, the pattern is on ravelry. The yarn is Paton's Canadiana in Grape Jelly. Using Addi Turbo needles which I already had, to prevent yet another trip to the yarn shop for needles. That happens quite often, it seems like I never have the right size needle for the new project. (and there are always new projects) Bamboo is my favorite, the metal ones seem way too slippery but these are working out alright for the moment. This yarn is also slippery, there was an incident where the cable sts slipped off the needles then laddered down a row. It was fixed for the most part, and the place where it happened isn't very obvious. A few sts were iffy, but it looks okay now so that's good enough for me.
Closeup of the braided cable now that the pattern is established. Another repeat of the cable pattern and it will be time to divide up for the sleeves. Very fun project so far. It is going to be a fair entry then probably go to my granddaughter when she grows into it. The size was 12-24 months so it looks huge after making the 0-3 and 3-6 mos sweaters.

Here is the finished baby shrug. Vanna's Choice yarn with size 10 needles made for a very quick project. It is a foggy, damp day here, nice to stay inside and fibernate. Don't have anywhere to be and should be a quiet day around here. Didn't get the mittens felted yet, wasn't in the mood to do it. We have a front loader washing machine and while you can felt things in it, it isn't like you can lift the lid and check on things. My first attempt at felting mittens in it was pure luck. They were the right size when it was done, had forgotten to pause the cycle and check on them.

Also we have an on-demand hot water heater and during the washing cycle the water turns on & off so the temp never got hot enough to do any good. Luckily the washer has a temp. boost setting which worked!

Really want to get back in front of my loom, also. It has a project on it now that I just plain don't like. Stopped working on it then allowed it to get sidetracked. Maybe today should be about finishing up loose ends. I'll unweave that project while the mittens are felting. Both the loom and the washer are in the basement ( the loom was put there temporarily) so it will work out the way it should.
